1. Sustainable Landscaping Technician​

Roots Wild is seeking a candidate with an appetite for hard work to join our team in the up-and-coming industry of ecological landscaping. The qualified candidate will have a passion for being outdoors, hardworking, work inter-dependently, and professional appearance.

 

Roots Wild is a premium design-build company catering to clientele valuing lasting solutions for their outdoor environment.​ ​

Responsibilities:

  • Enjoy the adventure of each day, since there's enough diversity to keep things interesting but enough consistency to grow, improve, and perfect processes

  • Co-create in the design and job installation process

  • Inventory management (water, weed, organize)

  • Load and unload materials, as needed

  • Implement methods in professional, efficient, and orderly fashion

  • Communicate between team members 

Job Requirements:

  • Driver's license and clean driving record

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Strong work ethic

  • Lift, squat, push, pull, shovel

  • Teamwork continues in all weather

  • Organizational skills and strong attention to detail

  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Of Note:

  • Will train the right candidate

  • Full or Part time options

  • Seasonal or year-round options available

  • Winter work does not include snow plowing

  • Installation season is April – December

Pay/Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly pay rate is commensurate with experience

2. Artisan Hardscape Apprenticeship

Become a master hardscape artisan through a paid apprenticeship at Roots Wild. Start your career in this valued trade under a leadership team that cheers you on and invests in your professional development in a mutually beneficial work environment. Some previous experience preferred but not required. Roots Wild was established by Joel and Erika Genz. Joel has been in the landscaping industry for over 20 years. His knowledge and expertise are well rounded and time tested. Check out the gallery and social media.

 

Gain experience, and over time you’ll learn to:

  1. measure a site for estimating

  2. measure materials for assembly and installation

  3. prepare site

  4. adjust grading

  5. select beautiful and quality materials fit for the site

  6. plan layout

  7. cut stone and brick

  8. place large rock materials

  9. create pondless water features, firepits, boulder walls, patios, walkways, etc.

  10. plan materials

  11. review design prints to determine materials and machinery

  12. operate machinery

  13. excavate sites with precision

  14. prepare a site for work

  15. select bonding agents and sealants for function and beauty

  16. remove damaged materials and repair

  17. perform work with precision, pride, and efficiency for the benefit of clients

 

Learn the art of naturalistic hardscaping that compliments Michigan naturalistic landscaping on an all-star team at Roots Wild. This trade requires hard labor, no doubt. But the long-lasting impact gives a satisfaction and purpose that outlasts a lifetime.

Requirements:

  • demonstrated enjoyment of manual labor

  • long-term commitment to apprenticeship

  • professional references

  • eagerness to learn and apply concepts

  • ability to lift/push/pull at least 100 pounds

  • desire to work on a team as well as independently

  • willingness to work in various Michigan weather

  • valid driver’s license and clean driving record

 

PAY: Apprenticeship is paid starting at $16/hour with performance-based $1/hour increases starting as soon as 90 days in. Other benefits include:

  • 1.5x paid daily over 10 hrs/40 hrs in a week

  • Uniform provided

  • After one year, clothing stipend provided

  • Professional development

  • Paid time off after one year
